I have owned two Subaru Outbacks with leather interiors. The driver’s side top seat cover on the first car was torn from about 70K miles. When the second csr had the same problem at around the same mileage, I replaced the seat cover with a cheap after market replacement. It ended up cracking in around 18 months.
I worked with a car apholstery repair shop to replace the seat cover. It involves removing the seat from the car and dealing with heated seat and airbag wiring. The repair shop charged around $225 in labor for the repair.
After the vinyl replacement seat cover cracked in less than 2 years, I made the decision to maintain and keep the car past 90K miles. I updated the suspension and did other expected maintenance for a car with 100K miles.
